Exquisite craftsmanship meets the artistry of Sozni hand embroidery on this luxurious handwoven cashmere shawl. Delicate vines of autumnal hues, entwined in purple, lime yellow and pink, grace the lime green canvas of this masterpiece.
The term "Pashmina" traces its origins to the Persian Gulf, where it signifies 'fine wool.' This exceptional wool is sourced from a specific breed of goat known as Chagra, which inhabits the lofty Himalayan mountains of Ladakh.
The foundation of this unique handwoven and hand-embroidered Pashmina is the finest cashmere fibers, boasting a thickness of merely 12-15 microns. The fabric has been meticulously hand-spun and expertly woven by the skilled hands of Mr. Mudasir khan on a traditional loom in the enchanting city of Srinagar, Kashmir, rendering this cashmere an epitome of luxury. The intricate Sozni embroidery, a testament to the artisan's finesse, has been painstakingly executed by Abdul Rashid in the picturesque village of Budgam. His distinctive signature graces the bottom of the shawl, meticulously rendered in the same creamy yarn. It's worth noting that it took him more than seven months to craft this exquisite shawl.
The source of the cashmere for this Pashmina lies with the Changra goats, a breed not indigenous to Kashmir itself. The journey to acquire this prized wool takes the shepherds over the challenging terrain of the Ladakh Plateau in Northern India, where these goats call home. These remarkable animals have a protective double-layered coat – a warm underlayer to withstand the harsh mountain cold and a sturdy outer guard hair to fend off the elements. It's the soft underlayer that's meticulously combed by the shepherds by hand during the springtime, ultimately becoming the cherished material for Pashmina shawls.
This piece has the artisan's signature and took 5 months to complete.
